Used for the famous Michelson-Morley Experiment, which showed that the measured speed of light is unaffected by the Earth’s motion through space, this interferometer arrangement has become a standard for simple optical determinations of minute quantities. Now you can use this inexpensive kit with a laser pointer to have your students learn the principles of interference by division of intensity and apply the technique to measure the diameter of a human hair, construct a seismograph to detect weak vibrations, measure the coefficients of expansion of different metals, and confirm Michelson and Morley’s conclusion. The set includes a baseplate, six magnetic supports, a short focal length lens, two front silvered mirrors, a beam splitter, a laser pointer holder, and a manual. A laser pointer is required; a complete set is available including our Superbright Laser Pointer, WL3677P-80, or you can purchase a laser pointer separately.
