Learn about matter and the physical and chemical properties of matter.
- Students will perform a series of experiments on density, smell, color, melting point, boiling point, and solubility, and then perform a series of reactions to try to identify an unknown solution with what they learned.
- Aligned to NGSS Practices
- Performance expectations: MS-PS1-2, HS-PS1-1, HS-PS1-3
- Disciplinary core ideas: PS1.A, PS1.B
- Cross cutting concepts include Patterns
- Engineering practices include analyzing and interpreting data, developing and using models, planning and carrying out investigations
The activities in this kit focus on developing a better understanding of what is matter and what the different types of properties are. Students perform a series of experiments focusing on the physical properties of density, smell, color, melting point, boiling point and solubility. Other experiments focus on chemical properties in which students perform a series of reactions as they try and identify an unknown solution. Kit contains enough material for 10 groups. Teacher's Manual and Student Study Guide copymasters are included.
Delivery information: Kit includes instructional manual and SDS booklet.
