The base that comes with the electroscope is conducting. This means it won't hold a charge. It can be made to work by putting it on top of Styrofoam cups or replacing the base with an insulating piece of plastic.

Essential Physics Demo: Large Demonstration Electroscope
Educational Materials Physics Educational Materials Electricity/Magnetism Learning Activities
With quick set up and execution, Large Demonstration Electroscopes give educators more time to work with students.

  • Affordable
  • Electroscope Size: 77 cm
  • Simple Assembly and Operation
  • Zinc Plate Provided
  • Topics Include the Photoelectric Effect and Einstein's Discoveries
The exciting demonstrations connect students to core physics and physical science concepts. Perfect for introducing a unit or as reinforcement after a lesson, these demos also explore the phenomena of the photoelectric effect and Einstein's extraordinary discoveries.

Rubbing the provided zinc plate with steel wool leaves a charge on the electroscope. When a strong UV light source (not included) is close to the plate, it frees the electrons, providing a fascinating viewing experience. Balloons are recommended but not included.
