Developed in collaboration with Dr. Martin K. Nickels, Professor of Physical Anthropology at Illinois State University, this Hominid Skull Comparison lets students investigate and draw their own conclusions regarding evolutionary relationships by examining and taking measurements of 24 life-size drawings of eight hominid skulls.
Each skull is depicted using three different views: a front view, profile view and medial view. This exercise simulates the process of paleo-archeology study that characterizes this scientific field. It also ties in to a discussion of the various competing theories of human evolution that are currently being hotly debated. Includes materials for eight student groups with DVD and instructions.
