Demonstrate the Direction of A Magnetic Field and Estimate Its Strength
Show how the magnetic field direction near a wire depends on current direction. A variable power supply will show that magnetic field strength hinges on current strength. For the highest sensitivity to current fluctuations, we precision-mounted a 15cm permanent magnet needle on an agate low-friction bearing and housed it in a sturdy metal frame. A PVC post insulates the frame. To provide a sturdy support, everything rests on a heavy circular metal base. A 5–10A power source will deflect the needle almost 90° Lower-amperage power will also give excellent results. Includes instructions. Size: 23cm wide x 21cm high. Requires a DC power supply sold separately.
